BREAST REDUCTION

A well-formed breast that fits your own body is a wish that we cannot influence by ourselves. The size and shape of the breast is determined by genetics. These are only rarely being changed, e.g. by hormones (particularly during pregnancy and breastfeeding) or after a significant weight gain or loss.

In contrast to other body regions which we would like to change, e.g. if you want a flatter belly, we cannot change the breast. If the size of your breasts cause a restricted quality of life, the breast reduction can be a suitable method to fulfill the desire for change.

First of all, in a detailed discussion it must be determined what exactly does not correspond to your idea and causes a low self-esteem.

There are different methods that have different goals. It must be determined if only a breast reduction achieves the optimal result or if a breast lift is also necessary.

In addition, in the case of asymmetrical breasts it should be considered whether a breast adjustment is necessary.

For Whom is an Breast reduction Suitable and How is it Performed?

While some women long for nothing more than a larger breast, there are also women who have complaints such as back, neck and headaches, or even spinal damage, due to proportionally large breasts.

Dissatisfaction with the visual appearance of the breasts is often added to everyday complaints. A breast reduction can ensure that these symptoms are minimized and that you can also feel optically well again.

During a breast reduction, excess glandular, fatty and skin tissue is being removed from the lower part of the breast.

A new breast is formed from the upper glandular body. The areola and the nipple are also being positioned upwards. This surgical method has the advantage that breastfeeding is still possible if you want to have children.

There are different techniques that are used depending on the size and nature of the breast. The periareolar surgical technique is suitable for a minor correction, while the T-section breast reduction involves the tightening of the breast at the same time.

In some cases, liposuction of the outer chest area should also be considered to reduce the width of the breast and optimize the shape.

FAQ

What kind of risks can occur?

As with all surgical procedures, breast augmentation involves certain risks that cannot be ruled out. A distinction must be made here between the general risks of general anesthesia, intolerance to medication, including local anesthesia, and the specific risks of breast augmentation.

When can I do sports again?

After a breast reduction, the skin and tissue must adapt to the new size. For this reason, you should absolutely avoid sporting activities for at least six weeks. Sports that particularly strain the chest area should not be practiced for up to six months.

When can I go back to work?

A rest period of at least two weeks should be observed. Afterwards, you can go back to light work.

What do I have to consider after the treatment?

After the operation you will receive a compression bra, which protects against excessive scarring and also supports the healing. This should be worn for the first few weeks.

At the beginning of the healing process, swelling and a feeling of tension in the breast can occur. In the first few weeks, in addition to avoiding physically strenuous activities, attention must also be paid to the sleeping position so that you only sleep on your back if possible.

How long does the treatment and the stay take?

The operation takes about two to three hours. You should plan a hospital stay of at least one day.
