INTIMATE SURGERY

At the latest, since Gustave Courbet's painting "The Origin of the World", which depicts the female genitalia, the vagina, the appearance of a vagina, which was previously hidden, has been objectified. Intimate surgery, which deals with the aesthetics and functionality of the vagina, is becoming more and more popular, so it is not surprising that the number of operations performed in the field of intimate surgery is increasing.

There are different methods in intimate surgery, each with different goals.

A distinction can be made between procedures that focus on the functionality, such as a vaginal tightening or G-spot padding, and procedures that aim for an aesthetic improvement, such as labia reduction.

Labia reduction is performed when the outer labia are covered by the inner labia. Due to hormonal changes, weak connective tissue or genetic predisposition, it is possible that the inner labia are larger and therefore clearly visible. Those affected often not only suffer from the appearance, but can also feel pain while moving due to the enlarged inner labia. A labiaplasty can be useful in these cases to regain more quality of life.

For Whom is an Biaplasty Suitable and How is it Performed?

Ideally, the labia minora (inner) are covered by the labia majora (outer). In reality, there are many different variants. Due to the trend of intimate shaving, the so-called standard variants, which deviate from the ideal, are perceived as disturbing.

If the affected women no longer feel comfortable in their bodies and also feel restricted in their sexuality, a reduction in the size of their lips (norm variant 1) could be a method of effectively counteracting the resulting impairment of self-confidence.

Trimming the protruding portion of the labia majora is not a problem for most patients. It is important to note that a large clitoris that overhangs the labia majora should not be affected by trimming the labia minora, as even partial removal of the hood of the clitoris can lead to hypersensitivity, a tendency to injury, and thus a disruption of the patients sex-life.

During labiaplasty, the inner labia is first measured to determine the tissue to be reduced.

We work exclusively with doctors who perform the procedure using the laser method. This is based on the fact that the labia represent an area that is very well supplied with blood and can swell considerably. Simple removal with a scalpel leads to heavy bleeding, which requires strong suturing, while at the same time the tissue swells considerably during the incision, making a precise incision difficult.

The laser method uses a beam of light to remove excess tissue without contact and closes the blood vessels in one step. This leads to minimal bleeding and the seam can then be closed with fine, self-dissolving sutures.

As with all surgical procedures, a labiaplasty involves certain risks that cannot be ruled out. A distinction must be made here between the general risks of general anesthesia, intolerance to medication, including local anesthesia, and the specific risks of labiaplasty addition to the general risks of an operation, the following specific risks are to be assessed as increased in an labiaplasty operation:
  • Bleeding, infections and wound healing disorders
  • The assessment and explanation of the risks must always be made individually and depending on the patient and his anamnesis in a detailed consultation with the operating doctor.

The first days after the procedure, there is an increased risk of postoperative bleeding. Swelling and minor hematomas can also be expected. Wound healing can be optimally supported with chamomile baths. Patients should take a bath for 3-5 minutes in the morning and evening for three weeks. It is required to refrain from sexual intercourse for six weeks.
