TUMMY TUCK

The so-called hourglass figure has been an expression of female sensuality since the beginning of time. It describes a body shape where the waist and belly area is slim in proportion to the body.

But what happens if the skin is greatly overstretched after a gain and subsequent loss of weight, such as in the case of pregnancy. The result is an expanded skin layer that cannot be trained away even with iron discipline. Even if the initial weight is regained, it does not mean that the initial image in the mirror will be the same as it was before the weight gain.

In particular, apron formation, which is clearly characterized by an overlapping of the skin, can cause a great level of suffering for those affected.

In these cases, the tummy tuck operation is suitable to recreate a harmonious appearance.

For Whom is an Tummy Tuck Suitable and How is it Performed?

The tummy tuck operation is not suitable for treating existing obesity. Rather, it is used to treat the consequences of obesity, e.g. after a stomach reduction such as gastric sleeve and the associated rapid weight loss.

In this operation the skin and fat tissues are being removed and, in some cases, the abdominal muscles are also being gently tightened. For this reason, the child planning should be over, because the missing tissue could have a counterproductive effect in a new pregnancy.

FAQ

What kind of risks can occur?

As with all surgical procedures, a tummy tuck involves certain risks that cannot be ruled out. A distinction must be made here between the general risks of general anesthesia, intolerance to medication, including local anesthesia, and the specific risks of tummy tuck.

In addition to the general risks of an operation, the following specific risks are to be assessed as increased in an tummy tuck operation:

  • Bleeding, wound healing disorders and infections.
  • The assessment and explanation of the risks must always be made individually and depending on the patient and his anamnesis in a detailed consultation with the operating doctor.

When can I do sports again?

After six weeks you can carefully start your sporting activities.

When can I go back to work?

After five days you are socially acceptable again. But you should plan a closed period of at least one week.

What do I have to consider after the operation?

Immediately after the operation you will receive a special compression garment. This must be worn for about eight weeks in order to make the abdominal muscles more stable and to minimize the tensile forces on the scar. After removing the compression garment, the result of the tummy tuck is clearly visible. A slimmer waist, a flat and firm belly, and a firmer abdominal wall will now characterize the appearance. In rare cases, the swelling process takes longer.

In order to support wound healing, strenuous activities should be avoided for at least six weeks. Long, hot baths and visits to the sauna and solarium should also be avoided during this time.

How long does the operation and the stay take?

The incisions to remove the excess tissue are optimally adjusted to the patient depending on the initial condition and takes about three hours. Depending on the complexity of the operation, a hospital stay of one to three days may be necessary.
