ReLex Smile (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) represents a new and innovative process of the eye laser method and is a further development of the LASIK method.
This is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a femtosecond laser. Compared to LASIK and the Femto-LASIK procedure, the ReLEx Smile method only makes a 2-3 millimeter long incision in the corneal layer, resulting in a reduced incision area of up to 80 percent.
The ReLEx SMILE procedure does not require the detachment of the uppermost corneal lamella the so-called flap.

The SMILE method is a very new procedure that is not suitable for everyone.
It can only be used to correct myopia (-10 dioptres) and astigmatism. It is particularly suitable for people who have a thin cornea and/or tend to have dry eyes. In addition, it is a suitable method for athletes to minimize downtime, since contact with water and sweat after the operation is less of a problem compared to LASIK and the Femto-LASIK procedure.
It is also an alternative for people who do not want to have an eye operation because they fear the the LASIK flap, as the risks associated with the flap are eliminated here.
